Celebrating Ten years of Progress

Pride at Derrycourt

This year marks ten years since one of the most momentous milestones in Irish LGBTQ+ history.

In 2015, Ireland made history by becoming the first country in the world to introduce Marriage Equality by popular vote. That same year also saw the introduction of the Gender Recognition Act and the Children and Family Relationships Act, marking significant progress for equality, recognition, and family rights in Ireland.

However, Pride is about more than milestones. It is about visibility, solidarity, and the ongoing work for inclusion.

Pride began as a protest.
In June 1969, LGBTQ+ people stood up against injustice at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. That act of resistance sparked a global movement for equality that continues today.

In Ireland, the first Dublin Pride March took place in 1983, led by people demanding change, dignity, and visibility for LGBTQ+ lives.

To mark this ten-year milestone, Derrycourt hosted a Pride Breakfast at Head Office, where colleagues gathered wearing bright colours in support of inclusion and equality.

A range of Pride resources was developed and shared with staff, recognising that inclusion begins with awareness and understanding. These resources offered information on LGBTQ+ history, allyship, and practical ways to support inclusion both within the workplace and in the wider community.

We remain committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome, valued, and empowered to be themselves.

Inclusion at Work

At Derrycourt, Pride is not just a single event. Pride reflects the values that shape our workplace culture. We believe that diversity and inclusion are fundamental to who we are and how we work. Our workplace policies reflect this commitment, providing a clear framework that supports dignity, respect, and equality for all employees.

We encourage everyone, regardless of background or identity, to stand up for inclusion and equality. So together, we continue to foster a workplace where everyone feels welcome, valued, and able to thrive.
