Inspiring the Next Generation

Through Meaningful Workplace Experience

Young people are often asked to make decisions about their education and career pathways with limited exposure to real workplace environments. Recognising the importance of early engagement, Derrycourt Cleaning Specialists launched the Inspiring the Future Transition Year Workplace Experience Programme to support students as they begin to explore life beyond the classroom.

Launched in March 2026, the programme was delivered at our Head Office in Finglas and designed specifically for Transition Year students from local schools. The three day placement provides practical insight into professional life while building confidence, awareness and transferable skills at a formative stage.

The programme was delivered in partnership with Dublin Northwest Partnership, an organisation working across Finglas and surrounding areas to advance education, employment and social inclusion. This collaboration ensured the programme was accessible, community focused and aligned to local needs.

The initiative also forms part of the wider Inspiring the Future programme led by South Dublin County Partnership, a not for profit organisation with over twenty years’ experience delivering community driven projects that support social mobility and inclusion.

Real World Insight Into a Modern Cleaning Business

Over the course of two weeks, two placements were delivered, welcoming five Transition Year students in total. Students were immersed in the day to day operations of a modern cleaning company, gaining insight into training, auditing, fleet and warehouse operations, as well as environmental protection and safety procedures.

As part of the experience, students developed digital skills by creating posters and social media content to support upcoming charity and awareness initiatives.

Reflection, Career Conversations and Certificates

Each programme concluded with a reflection session and open discussion on career pathways. The Dublin Northwest Partnership coordinator joined students on site, followed by a “day in the life” conversation with members of our team, including an international intern who shared their career journey. The experience concluded with certificate presentations recognising participation and achievement.

Supporting ESG and Community Impact

This workplace experience initiative forms part of our Company ESG Road Map, reflecting our commitment to creating inclusive opportunities and strengthening community connections. By opening our doors to local students, we support the development of transferable skills including communication, teamwork, confidence and digital literacy.

We look forward to welcoming more Transition Year students in the years ahead and continuing to invest in initiatives that inspire the next generation.
